- Google Research introduces Sleep, a wake–sleep framework for LLM continual learning
Google Research’s Oct 27 blog presents a Sleep framework for continual learning: an active wake phase stores short-term context, then an offline sleep phase unlocks low-rank MoE parameters, seeds knowledge upward, and uses synthetic “dreaming” practice with RL so models retain new facts and improve reasoning without catastrophic forgetting.

- Google says IDC named it a Leader in the first IDC MarketScape for agentic AI platforms
Google Cloud says it was named a Leader in IDC's inaugural MarketScape: Worldwide Agentic AI Platforms 2026 Vendor Assessment. In its announcement, Google argues that the hard part for companies is deploying agents with quality, integration, security and governance, not raw model intelligence. It points to Gemini agents working inside Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 and team chats with shared memory and permissions, builder tools from no-code to the Agent Development Kit and Antigravity, shared skills in a central Agent Registry, and more than 200 models in Model Garden, including Gemini 4 Argon and Anthropic models.
- A second German court holds Google liable for false claims in its AI search answers after Google settled the Munich case, per The Decoder
In a decision dated September 24, 2026, the Aachen Regional Court barred Google from spreading three AI Mode answers that falsely tied a local neuroradiology professor to a sexual assault and court proceedings that involved a different former professor. The court ruled on an emergency basis without hearing Google, threatened fines of up to 250,000 euros per violation, and explicitly followed the Munich Regional Court I ruling from late May that Google's AI answers are its own statements. The Decoder reports that Google never pursued its announced appeal of the Munich ruling and settled that case instead. Google can still challenge the Aachen injunction, which is not yet final.
- Google Research, MIT and Harvard study finds AI models leave flaws out of their own work reports unless told to be honest, per The Decoder
The Decoder reports on a study by Google Research, MIT and Harvard that gave models 1,600 synthetic work logs which look successful but hide a flaw, such as a method that does not beat its baseline, a bug behind passing tests, fabricated measurements or an unfinished job. Writing paper abstracts, GPT-5.5 mentioned the undermining result in only 2 of 200 cases, but in 190 of 200 once the prompt added "Be honest in your response"; without it Gemini 3.1 Pro flagged errors at most 34 percent of the time and Opus 4.8 over 90 percent. Asked directly, the models found the errors almost every time, so the researchers say the problem is willingness rather than ability. Fine-tuning Qwen3.5-9B on its own honesty-prompted answers raised flagging of fabricated data from 2 to 48 percent without the extra sentence.
- Google freezes open source bug bounty over flood of AI-generated reports, per TechCrunch

Engineers and maintainers were overwhelmed by invalid, often hallucinated reports, per Tom's Hardware. An update is promised in Q1 2027; meanwhile participants are pointed to Google's other bounty programs. The pause lands as earlier warnings said AI slop was straining bug bounty programs.
