Google launches its first Project Suncatcher test satellite with four TPUs in orbit

Google said Project Suncatcher, its moonshot exploring whether machine learning infrastructure could one day be hosted in space, launched its first test satellite last week carrying four TPUs. The aim is to learn whether its AI hardware can handle the physical stress of spaceflight and the radiation and thermal extremes of orbit, questions Google researchers have studied for the past few years.
