Mesa merges support for running YOLOX object detection with PyTorch on NPUs, per Phoronix

Not confirmed by the company — reported on Oct 13, 2026 (source: phoronix.com).

Phoronix reports that developer Tomeu Vizoso merged YOLOX support into Torx, Mesa's backend for compiling and running machine learning models through PyTorch ExecuTorch, so YOLOX can run with PyTorch on Mesa's NPU drivers. It has been tested on the Arm Ethos-U NPU in the NXP i.MX93 SoC, while the Etnaviv driver for Vivante NPUs supports the needed operations but still lacks Torx infrastructure. The change is part of Mesa 26.3.
