Anthropic study: analysts deferred to Claude Code’s assigned lean on 86% of judgment calls
Anthropic published this on Oct 28, 2026 (source: anthropic.com).
Anthropic reports a study in which 50 professional analysts did a causal-inference task with Claude Code while each agent was secretly assigned coin-flip “leans” on open decisions. Analysts matched the agent’s lean on 86% of four analytical choices, often reused the agent’s arguments without credit, and still often called the final recommendation their own. Anthropic frames the result as a caution about deferred judgment in AI-assisted work.
