Apple tightens macOS Full Disk Access over new risks from AI agents, per TechCrunch

Apple announced stricter controls around macOS's Full Disk Access permission, so apps can only gain it through very explicit user action, per TechCrunch's Sarah Perez. Full Disk Access lets apps read files, mail, messages and browsing history, and Apple wrote that as AI agents grow more autonomous, the risks of this level of access will grow substantially. The move follows an Inc. column claiming Meta's Muse agent knew private messages without permission — which Meta disputed — and a Wired report on a ChatGPT Mac app flaw that could have exposed sensitive data. No timeline for the change was given.
