OpenAI News published this on Nov 2, 2026 (source: openai.com).

OpenAI announced Grid Protectors, a national program to design future compute campuses so utilities can call on them to reduce electricity demand during stress, starting with Georgia. For the planned Effingham County campus, OpenAI says it will pay full infrastructure and service costs and cites an agreement with Georgia Power for up to 1,000 MW of flexible demand response—framed as enough to help keep AC running for roughly 700,000 households in extreme heat—plus optional on-site generation/storage where local needs allow.
